Newsletter Summer 2025

Welcome to the Summer of 2025!

Crofthead is thriving!

So far this summer the residents have enjoyed cocktails in the sunshine, opera afternoons and a Wimbledon Day with tennis accompanied by strawberries and cream. The greenhouse is full of strawberries, blackberries and marigolds, all ready to be enjoyed by us all, residents, staff and families and visitors alike.

We took part in the annual Olympic events with both Erskine and CAN ( Care Activity Network) . The Erskine initiative travels around selected care homes offering a fun sporting event and CAN invites residents to a sporting venue to participate in the games. This event was televised on STV and residents team can be spotted carrying the Crofthead banner, which they painstakingly designed and manufactured especially for these events.

We were piped into the hall, alongside other carehomes to an abundance of applause.

Outings have included Strathclyde Park and Amazonia, the Gillespie Centre in Biggar and our planned outing to Burntisland will run in the next few weeks when the weather allows. Beach days are are firm favourite with our residents and families. Paddling by the sea, fish and chips and summer songs makes the day very memorable. Discussing favourite holidays is also loved. Shared stories truly are the best.

Keeping everyone connected is always our priority, so we all enjoyed our annual Saturday afternoon tea with friends and family. We welcome family members on our trips and we also have volunteers from the world of business who offer their assistance on their volunteer week.

We continue to facilitate telephone calls, zoom calls, letter writing and everyone is welcome to our musical afternoons.

When our residents come together for their monthly meeting we ask for requests in regards to Entertainers. This summer we’ve invited in a range of genres, from country, rock and roll, choirs and brass bands.

The singers in our choir continue to learn new songs and piano skills. Table top games and ball games are planned weekly. We play pool, bowls, badminton, tennis and you will see our walking group out and about in the local area.

Our chef prepares treats and meals from around the world, but he also makes himself know to the residents and has built rapport with each person, enabling them to request a little personal delicacy or to comment on his cooking skills too.

The residents love the Gala Day and this year was no different. They gathered together on the carehome terrace to watch the parade go by, wave to the villagers and then retired into our decorated lounges to enjoy a buffet lunch and a party afternoon with entertainment and a gala day sweetie bag.

If you would like to visit us, please know that you would be most welcome. We will always offer you a cup of tea, a tour around and a friendly smile. Call the management team to arrange. Our activities team also embrace new ideas to roll out across Crofthead, so please email [email protected] if you can assist us in any way.

Thanks as always for your support.

Crofthead is thriving and vibrant!
