Welcome to Summer 2026 and our quarterly Newsletter.

We have enjoyed a wonderful Spring, and have flourished watching the garden come to life. We have a gardening team who have been watering the plants in pots and caring for the bulbs which include daffodils, tulips and crocus. Our greenhouse is a hub of activity. Many thanks to the Mill Garden Centre who prepared our hanging baskets again this year. They add a wonderful flourish of colour every year to our home.
For Summer 26, we have a wonderful volunteer Alastair, who has planted tomatoes and cucumber, together with herbs, which the residents can harvest ( kitchen garden) and provide to the Chef, who in turn can create the most fabulous meals. We enjoy preparing veggies, chopping for soup and baking cakes too!
Trips so far have included, Blair Drummond Safari Park, Mystery tours followed by afternoon tea, Gouldings Garden Centre and sailings on the Union Canal with the Seagull Trust. We are very fortunate to live in the Central belt of Scotland where their are mountains, rivers, theatres and art galleries on our doorstep. Last Summer we had an exciting day out at Strathclyde Country Park, where we had a ride out on the speed boats and we are planning to try this again this Summer too.
Recently, in the very good weather, we enjoyed ” Party in the Park” where residents, staff and the local Hub came together for ball games, songs, coffee and of course a fabulous picnic. Many thanks to the Eastfield Centre for supplying outdoor tables and chairs and access to tea and coffee facilities. The Brownies and Guides have also visited, as part of our intergenerational project. During these visits we collectively create art exhibits and there is plenty singing too.
Eddie Anderson, photographer and Editor, from the West Lothian News came to visit as a guest speaker and shared his knowledge of photography. We were fascinated by the modern technology and enjoyed reminiscing about current and historical news bulletins.
Going forward this summer we are looking forward to our World Cup party, a special day out to a Premiership football Team as VIP guests, the local Gala Day and by much request we will be visiting the zoo. Our coffee mornings continue with residents meetings and coffee and conversation sessions. We had a Country themed evening with cowboy hats in abundance and the staff and residents are participating in our annual sponsored distance 10k walk. ( distance on ability).
We are a wonderful group of people. Residents, families and staff, alongside the wider community, come together to create a peaceful happy home.
Crofthead is thriving!
